Julien Leys brings extensive experience in both business and politics to his role as a strategic communicator, and General Manager of SenateSHJ’s Auckland office.
Before joining SenateSHJ, Julien founded award-winning public relations agency, PR Partners (formerly known as JML Communications), which he built up over nine years. He brings his considerable knowledge of business, commerce and technology, combined with extensive senior multi-disciplinary experience, to lead our growing Auckland office.
Julien was the legal and communications advisor to the Minister of Local Government in New Zealand’s first MMP Parliament. This, paired with his experience in the commercial world and key positions with leading public relations consultancies, makes Julien uniquely placed to provide effective and lasting communications solutions. He has since provided communications advice to a range of New Zealand and global organisations, from leading pharmaceutical, oil and technology companies to key industry / professional organisations. Julien is a specialist in crisis communications and also regularly trains senior executives and corporate spokespeople on how to effectively manage the media.
He holds a first-class Honours Master’s degree in Law as well as a senior prize in History from the University of Auckland. Julien is a Qualified Member of the Auckland District Law Society as well as a member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand. He is also a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ), a mentor on the PRINZ APR Programme and a Founding Trustee of the NZ Men’s Health Trust.
