AI-assisted engagement

Artificial intelligence is changing how organisations listen, analyse and respond.

Used well, AI can help engagement teams move faster from large volumes of information to meaningful insight. Used poorly, it can weaken trust, introduce bias, compromise privacy or create outputs that appear more certain than they are.

SenateSHJ helps clients use AI-assisted engagement strategically, safely and with clear human oversight.

Our engagement practice works closely with our in-house insights, digital and reputation specialists to assess developments in AI and apply them where they strengthen the quality, speed or usefulness of engagement. We do not use AI for its own sake. We use it where it helps clients understand people, identify patterns, test assumptions and make better decisions.

AI can support engagement design, stakeholder analysis, audience insight, data collection, transcription, theme analysis, visualisation and reporting. It can strengthen a community engagement strategy or stakeholder engagement strategy by helping clients test assumptions, identify emerging risks and understand how different groups may respond.

Simulated audiences and AI-assisted focus groups can be valuable in testing engagement approaches, messages and materials with representative stakeholder or community groups before broader community consultation begins. Used carefully, they can help identify likely questions, concerns, trust gaps and social licence risks — particularly where community confidence or acceptance may be under pressure.

But engagement remains a human discipline. AI can assist analysis; it cannot replace judgement, context or the responsibility to listen carefully.

We work with clients to set clear parameters for how AI is used, what data is included, where human review is required and how privacy, security and accuracy will be protected. This includes agreeing human mediation thresholds, using secure tools and ensuring outputs are checked before they inform advice or decision-making.

For broader advice, see Community engagement, Stakeholder engagement and Employee engagement.

If you want to use AI to strengthen engagement without compromising trust, we can help you apply it with purpose, discipline and governance.
