Each January, partners in professional services firms return to work asking the same quiet question: where will the work come from this year?
When the inbox is quieter, and the diary looks lighter than it did a couple of months ago, a sense of uncertainty can trigger discomfort, and for some, such as early tenure partners, anxiety.
As careers progress, responsibility quietly shifts. At some point, professionals move from delivering work to being relied upon by the team and the firm to continually bring the work in. The unease that surfaces early in the year often reflects identity lagging behind that responsibility.

Confidence is built when professionals stop waiting for certainty to arrive externally and start taking ownership. Ownership of relationships, conversations, and momentum.
