City of Melton: shaped with community input
The challenge
The City of Melton is one of Australia’s fastest-growing municipalities, with the population set to double by 2051. To support this growth, SenateSHJ worked with Melton City Council to develop a strategic approach for engaging the community on the new Plumpton Aquatic and Leisure Centre and to facilitate community consultation on its masterplan design.

Hearing from the community
As part of our work, we led a consultation process to gather feedback on the Centre’s features, proposed services, and how the community saw themselves using the space.
The community consultation was a success — it had one of the largest responses Council has ever received on a project; with more than 1,000 responses. Community input directly shaped the final masterplan, with several new features added.
The outcome
A strategic approach to engagement
SenateSHJ’s work enabled Melton City Council to take a thoughtful, community-focused approach to engagement—ensuring the Centre will reflect the needs and aspirations of a growing population.
A centre for everyone
The new facility will be a space where people of all abilities can swim, play, exercise, and connect. It will also include allied health services and Australia’s first water sensory area —providing much-needed support for rehabilitation and for people living with disabilities.
